LGBTQ-Friendly Shabbat Shacharit Service on 6 July

At the Budapest Pride 2012, we witnessed a historic event when three egalitarian Jewish communities jointly held a Shabbat Shacharit service to declare support for the LGBTQ community. The event attracted so much attention and interest that the organizers decided to repeat it this year.

Venue: Bálint Közösségi Ház/Jewish Community Centre (Budapest, District 6, Révay utca 16.)

Date: 11 a.m. on 6 July 2013

The service is public and open for the Jewish and LGBTQ communities and all their friends.

Men attending are kindly requested to don kippahs, women are encouraged to do so.

The service will be lead by Armin Langer, student of the Jerusalem Conservative Yeshiva. Rabbi Katalin Kelemen of the Budapest Sim Shalom Progressive Jewish Community will give a drasha (speech). A welcoming letter from Rabbi Ferenc Raj of the Bet Orim Reform Jewish Community in Budapest and the Temple Beth El in Berkeley will be read out before the service.

The event is supported by the Bet Orim Reform Jewish Community, the Dor Hadash Community, Moishe House Budapest and the Sim Shalom Progressive Jewish Community.
